Do you know there are mosque, church, and synagogue in the same complex, located in the capital’s heart of a country in Middle East? Also, do you know there is a mosque named Mary, Mother of Jesus Mosque? Not many people know. Hence, in commemoration of International Tolerance Day, Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Leimena Institute hosted International Webinar with the topic “A New Narrative of Abrahamic Family Tolerance from the United Arab Emirates” on Tuesday, 24 November 2020 at 18.30-20.30 Jakarta time. The webinar attended by more than 800 participants from all regions in Indonesia and overseas, was enthusiastically welcomed.

H.E. General TNI Fachrul Razi (Ret.), Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, officially opened the webinar and gave his remarks. Drs. Jakob Tobing, MPA (Chairman of the Leimena Institute) and Dr. Alwi Shihab (Senior Fellow of the Leimena Institute) also emphasized on the importance of stronger Abrahamic Family (Islam, Christianity, and Judaism) collaboration in Indonesia and in the world for better human life.

Directly from Abu Dhabi, Dr. Ali Rashid al Nuaimi (Member of UAE Federal National Council and Chairman of World Council of Muslim Communities) shared new narrative for peaceful and tolerant co-existence among the Abrahamic religions as developed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Rabbi David Sapperstein (Former US Ambassador for International Religious Freedom and Member of AJC’s Muslim-Jewish Advisory Council) responded well upon the progress of tolerant living among the Abrahamic religions in UAE. Reflecting on what happens in UAE, Dr. Siti Ruhaini Dzuhayatin (Senior Advisor of Indonesian President’s Executive Office and Commissioner of OIC’s Human Rights Commission 2012-2018) also encouraged that tolerance among the religious people in Indonesia and the world be improved. The same hope for more tolerant and peaceful living among the Abrahamic Family was also conveyed by Rev. Johnnie Moore (President of Congress of Christian Leaders and Commissioner of US Commission on International Religious Freedom).
