A public lecture with the topic of “Citizens in Indonesia’s Transformation” was held on Saturday, November 8th 2014, from 09.00 am to 11.30 am in Ciputra University Surabaya in relation to the Citizenship Course. This public lecture, which was attended by around 250 students, discussed the historical development of ideas about Indonesia as a nation and how modern ideas, such as equality and independence, could finally be transpired in the Indonesian Constitution Preamble. The public lecture also talked about the Constitution Amendment and how it largely impacts the life of Indonesian citizens. The importance of citizen’s participation in building the economy and the regional government’s performance was delivered with a case study about Northern and Southern Italy. The case study was a result of a research by Professor Robert Putnam from Harvard University, USA. This has been an interesting case study showing how important citizen’s participation is in building the society. Simple examples about how citizen’s participation can be done were shown in several video clips. This lecture was delivered by Matius Ho and Budi Setiamarga.
