IL News 024/2018

Richard stands up representing his group whilst showing a piece of paper full of non-straight lines which point to different directions. “This represent current politic situation in Indonesia: messy, complicated, irregular, just like tangled thread”, he says to all GARUDA (Indonesia Renewal Generation) participants.

No need to spend time looking for data to prove above statement. The question is: What should be done to dissolve the tangled thread? What should young generation do, as future leader, to fight for common good in politics? What should the youth do to make nation’s dream come true?

These are the concern of Richard together with other 15 participants in GARUDA program from 19-20 October 2018 at Palopo. This program is initiated by Toraja Church Synod and Leimena Institute for public leader succession plan. Budi H. Setiamarga and Puansari Siregar from Leimena Institute are the learning facilitators for public leadership basic principle, such as Pancasila, Constitution, Diversity Narration, and Role of Citizens.

Rev. Rimba, 1st Head of Toraja Church Working Assembly from Regional 1, asked participants to look upon Nehemia as role model who brought renewal for the nation. Rev. Marthen Lamida, S.Th. (Head of Toraja Church Working Assembly from Regional 1) hopes participants will continuously equip themselves as young leaders who care and act.

The 2 days training will be continued by online learning. For the next 2 months, participants will be in learning community to learn from each other so they can relevantly lead and bring renewal in society. Hopefully this young generation will slowly dissolve the politic’s tangled thread as mentioned in the beginning.
