Our 15th Civic Education was held in Salatiga (Central Java) on April 29th to 30th, 2011 in partnership with the Agency for Cooperation of Churches in Salatiga (BKGS). By explaining the biblical principles and the Constitution, this program encouraged the participants to be responsible citizens of Indonesia and Christ’s disciples at the same time. More than 60 people came to this program, which was facilitated by Budi H. Setiamarga and Matius Ho of the Institute Leimena.
What did the participants say about this Civic Education program?
Rev. Yohan Kisnanto (GBI Karangalit church, Regional Head of Central Java and Yogyakarta GBI church): “encouraged to have a sense of nationhood because Christians are also part of the citizens” and “will share the result of this seminar to 760 pastors in the GBI church.”Rev.

Lydia Ninan Lestario (GKI Salatiga church): “I now realize that in fact there is no “minority” in citizenship, but every citizen is equal before the Law. I will share this new knowledge to the people around me (neighbors, colleagues, church members, etc).”
Rev. Daniel Merry Iswanto (hairman of BKGS & GKJTU church synod):“ This education gives us awareness and insight on nationhood and the Constitution. I want to share this actively through education on politics, citizenship, democracy, and rule of law.”
Win Sumardi (GPIB Taman Sari church):“I want to inspire other people to be responsible citizens. It’d be great if our friends in the village can also learn about this.”

Tjiptaningtyas (Elder of GKJTU Salatiga church):“It has made me aware not to feel afraid and insecure as Christians because we have the same rights and obligations in this country. I want to motivate and encourage families and friends in our church not to feel like second class or third class citizens.”
