Toraja (South Sulawesi), 23th February 2012

During Institut Leimena’s 27th Citizenship Education Program at Toraja, South Sulawesi, we had an opportunity to give a public lecture at the Toraja Theological Seminary. The seminary was founded by the Toraja Church Synod in 1964 under the name Rantepao Theological Seminary. In 1976, it was temporarily closed due to several considerations and did not accept any new students. The acceptance of new students was reopened again in 1984. In 2004, it was transferred to become Toraja College of Christian Religious Affairs (STAKN) under the Christian Guidance Agency of the Ministry of Religion. In 2011, Toraja Church Synod felt the need to re-open the seminary and named it Toraja Theological Seminary.

The public lecture was opened by Rev. Augustine Karurukan Sampe Asang, chairman of the seminary. It was attended by about 30 students. The lecture materials included the concept of Indonesia in the 1945 Constitution, understanding the 1945 Constitution Amendments as a base for public advocacy as well as citizenship discussion. They were delivered in sessions by Matius Ho, Daniel Adipranata and Santhy Chamdra of Institut Leimena.

The lecture that went on for 3 hours did not bore the students and the few professors who attended; they were instead extremely enthusiastic as can be seen from the Q&A session at the end of the lecture.
