Dr. Maruarar Siahaan, Rector of the Indonesian Christian University (UKI), shares his life story of serving as a State Court Judge in various place until becoming a Judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia, to the participants of the Johannes Leimena School of Public Leadership, August 17, 2014. In the beginning of his career as a judge, he struggled with livelihood matters. However, he strived to live with honesty and integrity, while trusting God for his livelihood.
Who does not know Drs. Jakob Tobing, MPA, the architect of the 1945 Amendment? On August 18, 2014, the Johannes Leimena School of Public Leadership participants were very fortunate to learn from his experiences of serving the nation. He said that being a politician does not need to talk a lot. Instead, they have to listen a lot of people, so that the network can be developed without involving personal interests.
When he was young, he was once imprisoned. He took the risk to fight for an ideal. It’s an episode in the life of Drs. Theo Sambuaga, MIPP, which he shared in the session of “Experiences in Serving the Nation” to the Johannes Leimena School of Public Leadership participants on August 19, 2014. He encouraged the participants to pursue an idealism relentlessly.
He admits himself as a village kid. Electricity and asphalt came to his village in 2005. However, he had a dream and a fighting spirit. He was well connected and active in organizations, until he became the Chairman of Muhammadiyah, a large Islamic organisation. This is a piece of Prof. Dr. H. Don’t be passive and do nothing, even in the old age”, said Prof. Dr. Irzan Tandjoeng, one of the founders of the Democratic Party, to the participants of Johannes Leimena School of Public Leadership on August 21, 2014. Furthermore, he added, what he has now is the result of his courage to dream and to work hard to make it happen.
