Gereja Batak Karo Protestan or GBKP (Batak Karo Protestant Church) held a Political Education program as a preparation for the Regional Head Elections, for various Classis and Categorical delegations, on September 15th, 2015, at 09.00 am. Held in Kaban Jahe, the capitol of Tanah Karo Region, the event was attended by 48 participants. Present as the speakers are (1) Banget Silitonga from Election Commission in North Sumatera, presenting about Technicalities of Regional Head Election and  basic rules of Regional Head Election; (2) Gemar Tarigan, from Regional Election Commission in Karo Regency, explaining about the stages of Karo Regional Head Election and (3) Jetra Sembiring, Vice General Secretary of the Batak Karo Protestant Church Synode, presenting “Your Vote is Valuable” module. As a preparation for Regional Head Election, citizens need to be reminded to make use of their vote. Of course, not just voting; but voting smartly. How?  GBKP Synode had an  initiative to place banners to remind people to use their votes not based on money given by the candidates; but by the quality of the candidates. They have to choose with their hearts instead of choosing because of money. About 20 banners were printed by GBKP. Many people were involved in duplicating and spreading the banners, by pasting them on the church gates and other strategic places so many people can see.

Taking place in Jambur Lige Kabanjahe, GBKP along MAMRE (Men’s Group), MORIA (Women’s Group), PERMATA (Youth Group) and GBKP Ate Keleng Foundation held a seminar and public dialogue with the regional head candidates of Karo Regency, on November 13, 2015. The event was held to give an enlightement to Karo citizens in determining their choice in the Regional Head Election on December 9, 2015, so they do not fall into transactional politics.
