IL News No. 023/2011
by Institut Leimena

On July 22nd, 2011, Institut Leimena received a visit from the Perkantas, an IFES affiliated student ministry. At the Institute, Viveka Nanda Leimena (Chairman of the Board), Pontas Nasution (Program Advisor), and Matius Ho (Executive Director) welcomed 18 of their staffs who came as part of their new staff orientation program.
In his opening, Viveka Nanda Leimena –the son of the national hero Johannes Leimena– told the founding history of the Institut Leimena in 2005. It was a response to the developing situation of our nation and the expectation of the national church leaders at that time.
Then quoting 1 Peter 2:9 from the Bible, former Director of Leimena Academy (now Institut Leimena) Pontas Nasution also explained how the Christians should become active citizens, being true servants and witnesses in the midst of many selfish church congregations. It is a concern that also drove the formation of the Institute.
Matius Ho added that “Johannes Leimena lived out an exemplary life as a statesman, because of his love, faithfulness, and obedience to God. In the same way, Christians should strive to follow God’s calling and fulfill their duties as responsible citizens in this nation.”
