Socialization on Citizen’s Constitutional Rights

Cisarua, Bogor. April 5-7, 2016

 

The Indonesian Constitutional Court, in collaboration with Leimena Institute, held the “Socialization on Citizen’s Constitutional Rights” on April 5-7, 2016 at the Constitutional Court’s Education Center in Cisarua, Bogor. This socialization was attended by 141 activists and partners of Leimena Institute, consisting of 32 Synod Leaders from 18 church synods, 49 alumnae of the Citizen Education Training of Trainers, 27 alumnae of Johannes Leimena School of Public Leadership (JLSoPL) and representatives from various partners of Leimena Institute, among them are the Indonesian Council of Churches, Indonesian Fellowship of Evangelical Students, Maranatha Christian University Bandung, Petra Christian University Surabaya, South East Asia Bible Seminary Malang, State Christian College of Toraja, and Christian College of Luwuk Banggai.

Noor Sidharta, Head of the Constitutional Court Education Centre, officially opened the event. In his opening speech, he emphasized how important it is for Indonesian citizens to understand their constitutional rights so they can take an active and constructive role for the nation. It was also stated that in the coming times, it is necessary to expand the partnership between the Indonesian Constitutional Court’s Education Center and Leimena Institute. Sign of participation was given by Noor Sidharta from the Indonesian Constitutional Court and Budi Setiamarga from Leimena Institute to two representatives from the participants, Dorkas Daeli from Gunung Sitoli, Nias (representing the Western part of Indonesia), and Yason Apaserai from Jayapura, Papua (representing the Eastern part of Indonesia).

Several interesting topics were delivered, among them are: “Pancasila and the Protection of Citizen Constitutional Rights”, “The Constitutional Court in the Indonesian State System”, and “Human Rights”. The presentation and the Q&A session went interestingly fresh and informative, thus the participants were able to learn a lot in regards of their constitutional rights. The event was ended with a visit to the Historical Museum of Indonesian Constitution at the Constitutional Court Office Building in Jakarta.
