34th CIVIC EDUCATION PROGRAM
Pacet – Mojokerto (East Java), 25th-26th April 2012
Pacet is a district in Mojokerto Regency, East Java Province. As a tourist destination in East Java, Pacet is known for its hot spring resort, waterfalls, and the cool pollution-free natural environment.
Pacet is also a fertile place for agriculture. Sweet potatoe is one of their famous produce.
It was in Pacet, on April 25th to 26th, 2012, that Institut Leimena held the 34th Civic Education program in partnership with the Pacet Abdi Allah (God’s Servant) evangelical seminary.

The program attracted 94 participants, a mixture of seminary students and representatives from 18 local churches in and around Pacet.
The seminary rector, Rei Rubin Barlian, joined the program. From Institut Leimena, the teaching team were Daniel Adipranata, Matius Ho, and Puansari Siregar.
All participants followed the 2-day program enthusiastically. At the end of the program, the Abdi Allah evangelical seminary and Institut Leimena signed a cooperation agreement to implement Civic Discussion program among the Christian and larger community in Pacet.

Let’s see some of the comments from the participants:
“I’m truly blessed with this seminar, because it’s opened my horizon. All this time the focus of ministry has been only on spiritual matters. Through this Civic Education, we can see a larger field of ministry.” (Yusak Suwarno, GPPS Immanuel church – Kedunglosari, Jombang)
“This training reminds me that as a citizen, the progress of this nation is a collective responsibility, including me as pastor. God has entrusted me with a big task to seek the welfare of the city where I live.” (Jerlin Sinurat, seminary student)
“It’s very useful to build my understanding as a citizen. We can’t be naïve, but must be active in political life, such as voting in election, facilitating Civic Discussion with people at the workplace or neighbourhood.” (Christian Yuniarti, GAB Anugerah Kabuh church – Jombang)
Though the Civic Education program in Pacet is over, may the inspiration on Christian responsibility in the life of our nation continue to echo in their hearts. Until one day, Pacet is known not only for its tourism and agriculture, but also for the ardent commitment of the Christian community to seek the welfare of Pacet city.
