National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) is an independent national institution founded by Indonesia Government to uphold women human rights. The institution aims to disseminate understanding on all kind of violence against Indonesia women with its prevention steps, recovery and the abolishment of women violence acts. As there are still violences and discriminative acts in civil servants environment, Komnas Perempuan organized Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with topic “Civil Servant Capacity Building on Constitutional Rights and Human Rights with Gender Perspective”.

In this FGD, Komnas Perempuan invited Leimena Institute to provide knowledge on Nationhood with topic “We are Indonesia”. In his lecture, Dr. Budi Hartono Setiamarga said that the appreciation to pluralism as reflected in Bhinneka Tunggal Ika shows the true identity of Indonesian since long time ago. The guarantee to Indonesia pluralism is also reflected in Human Rights Protection in Article 28a until 28J, 1945 Constitution. Komnas Perempuan summarized it into 40 civil constitutional rights.

This event was facilitated on Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018 at Sari Pan Pacific Hotel, Jakarta. It was attended by 27 discussants consisting of speakers, Komnas Perempuan Commissioners, leaders and representatives from education bureau under Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health, National Defense Institute, such as Institute of Domestic Governance, State Administration Institute, Civil Society Politechnic, etc. The FGD took place from 9 AM until 4 PM, opened by Budi Wahyuni, Deputy Head of Komnas Perempuan. Nina Nurmila, Education Commissioner of Komnas Perempuan moderated the discussion.

It is expected that all future trainings under Ministries will pay more attention on gender-based human rights in both the training events and materials. Participants are also expected to apply the understandings in their upcoming policies and actions.
