Surabaya (East Java), November 10th, 2012
Coinciding with the National Hero Day on November 10th, 2012, the Ciputra University in Surabaya—known as the City of Hero—invited the Leimena Institute to give public lectures to more than 250 students on the theme “Citizens in the Wave of Change in Indonesia”.
The Ciputra University and Leimena Institute understand the importance of young Indonesian entrepreneurs to become responsible citizens in the nation. They should have not only a good entrepreneurship mind, but also a commitment as Indonesian citizens. The growth of Indonesia relies on these future entrepreneurs.
In the half day lectures, Budi Setiamarga and Matius Ho of the Leimena Institute discussed the historical background of the modern ideas in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution, which lay the foundation for the birth and future of Indonesia.
The students then learned about the 1999-2002 amendment to the 1945 Constitution, that has strengthened the democratic foundation for Indonesia. With this amendment, the role of citizens gains significance in the public square. Now the citizens need to engage actively to determine the future of Indonesia.
