On August 14, 2014, in Kupang, Nusa Tenggara Timur, Dr. Paul Marshall, Senior Fellow of the Leimena Institute and Hudson Institute’s Center for Religious Freedom (USA), and Matius Ho, Leimena Executive Director, held a round table discussion on challenges to religious freedom in the world and contemporary religious radicalization with the leaders of the Evangelical Christian Church in Timor (GMIT) Synod. Synod Secretary Rev. Benjamin Nara Lulu chaired the discussion which was also attended by Vice Chair Rev. Welmintje Kameli-Maleng and Vice Secretary Rev. Ince Touselak. Church and politics relation is always an issue that the churches must face when they engage in the nation and state. Therefore, it is one of the main issues that Dr. Paul Marshall, author of the “God and the Constitution” (Rowman & Littlefield, 2002), will focus on his program with the Leimena Institute beginning this year in 2014. His first lecture in Indonesia on “Christianity and Politics” was delivered at the Evangelical Christian Church in Timor (GMIT) Synod in Kupang, Nusa Tenggara Timur, on August 15, 2014, attended by pastors and elders of GMIT churches. Vice Chair Rev. Welmintje Kameli-Maleng presided the lecture and discussion (above).
Since August 2014, Dr. Paul Marshall, Senior Fellow of the Leimena Institute, was also welcomed as a Visiting Professor by the Graduate School of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University in Jakarta.
