Maluku’s Governor Said Assagaff, together with Rev. A.A. Yewangoe and CCI Maluku Region’s Chairman Rev. John Ruhulesin, opened the convention which was the first time for Maluku region and attended by pastors and church elders from the 13 church synod members in various islands in Maluku.
To better understand how to build interfaith relationship and cooperation through the experience of Maluku people, Paul Marshall and Matius Ho of the Leimena Institute, accompanied by the Maluku Protestant Church Synod’s Vice Chair Rev. Lies Mailoa, went to visit the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI) of Maluku in Ambon on August 25, 2014, for a discussion, which was greeted warmly by the Council’s leaders. Why is religious freedom important, including for economic growth? This was one of the issues addressed by Leimena Institute’s Senior Fellow Paul Marshall in a roundtable discussion with private sector leaders on “The Role of Business in Promoting Inter-Cultural and Inter-Religious Peace and Harmony” in Bali on August 29, 2014. The program was part of the Sixth Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC). The roundtable discussion, which was opened by Indonesia Global Compact Network’s President YW Junardy, was also attended by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon who gave the keynote address that evening.
