On October 14, 2014, the Student Executive Board (BEM) of Petra Christian University in Surabaya invites the Leimena Institute to give a training on politics and law to 30 student leaders. On this occasion, Leimena Institute’s President Jakob Tobing shared his experience of more than 35 years in Indonesian politics. The session was followed by small group discussions on the amendments of the 1945 Constitution and a plenary session led by Matius Ho and Budi Setiamarga.<\/p>\n

Center for the Study of Ethics and Sosio-Religiosity in Petra Christian University, chaired by Linda Bustan, facilitates a discussion program on Religious Freedom on October 15, 2014. The discussion was attended by about 25 participants, including Petra University’s Rector Prof. Dr. Rolly Intan, and other leaders and lecturers of the Petra Christian University, Ciputra University, South East Asia Bible Seminary, Nusantara Bible Seminary, Aletheia Seminary, Indonesia Student Christian Movement (GMKI), and representations from churches in Surabaya. The speakers were Leimena Institute’s Senior Fellow, Dr. Paul Marshall and Executive Director, Matius Ho.<\/p>\n

On October 16, 2014, the State University of Surabaya (Unesa) holds a seminar and workshop on “Religion and Power \u2013 The Efforts in Building Religious Understanding and Tolerance” for around 300 students of their Pancasila and Citizenship Education study program. Dr. Paul Marshall, Senior Fellow of Leimena Institute and Hudson Institute (USA), spoke on the “Religious Freedom and the Radicalism of Religious Groups”. Then, Matius Ho of the Leimena Institute explained about the “Religious Freedom and the (Indonesian) Constitution”. The last speaker was Khoirul Rosyadi, PhD, \u00a0a graduate from the People’s Friendship University of Russia, discussing the “Religion and Power – Comparison of Indonesia and Russia”.<\/p>\n
