Our 15th Civic Education was held in Salatiga (Central Java) on April 29th to 30th, 2011 in partnership with the Agency for Cooperation of Churches in Salatiga (BKGS). By explaining the biblical principles and the Constitution, this program encouraged the participants to be responsible citizens of Indonesia and Christ\u2019s disciples at the same time. More than 60 people came to this program, which was facilitated by Budi H. Setiamarga and Matius Ho of the Institute Leimena.<\/p>\n
What did the participants say about this Civic Education program?<\/p>\n
\u00a0Rev. Yohan Kisnanto (GBI Karangalit church, Regional Head of Central Java and Yogyakarta GBI church)<\/strong>: \u201cencouraged to have a sense of nationhood because Christians are also part of the citizens\u201d and \u201cwill share the result of this seminar to 760 pastors in the GBI church.\u201dRev.<\/p>\n Maria Petronela (GMPU church, BKGS Women Commission)<\/strong>: \u201cVery useful for me because I can apply these insights on nationhood in my neighborhood. I will tell it to my grandchildren as useful lessons for their future.\u201d<\/p>\n Rev. Yan Takaria<\/strong>: \u201cIt inspires me on how to deal with the things that I do not agree with, especially in the life of our nation and state. \u00a0As advisor to neigborhood coordinator (RW), I will proactively talk about how to live in mutual respect, in accordance to Pancasila and the Constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n Madiyono (Elder of GKJTU Salatiga church<\/strong>):\u201cIt encouraged us to change our way of thinking and action in the interest of many people.\u201d<\/p>\n Mdm. Esty Widhiani Lopez (GSJS church)<\/strong>: \u201cIt opens my mind about my rights and obligations as an Indonesian citizen and a disciple of Christ. I want to share this to the women\u2019s group in my neighborhood and my family members.\u201d<\/p>\n Rode Susana (GSII church)<\/strong>: \u201cMy optimism has been revived to act responsibly with my fellow citizens in building a better Indonesia.\u201d<\/p>\n Lydia Ninan Lestario (GKI Salatiga church)<\/strong>: \u201cI now realize that in fact there is no \u201cminority\u201d in citizenship, but every citizen is equal before the Law. I will share this new knowledge to the people around me (neighbors, colleagues, church members, etc).\u201d<\/p>\n Rev. Daniel Merry Iswanto (hairman of BKGS & GKJTU church synod)<\/strong>:\u201c This education gives us awareness and insight on nationhood and the Constitution. I want to share this actively through education on politics, citizenship, democracy, and rule of law.\u201d<\/p>\n Win Sumardi (GPIB Taman Sari church)<\/strong>:\u201cI want to inspire other people to be responsible citizens. It\u2019d be great if our friends in the village can also learn about this.\u201d<\/p>\n Rev. Timotius Jureuri (GPIB Salatiga church)<\/strong>: \u201cI want to encourage my congregation to understand the integrity of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia and our responsibility to our nation.\u201d<\/p>\n Rev.
